Gary was born in Livingston on 1st September 1981. Out racing he is known as the 'Handinator' and up until now has led a successful career as a racing cyclist both at home and abroad. He is currently riding with Scotland's only professional cycling team, Endura Racing that are based out of their sportswear clothing business in Livingston.

So why get into coaching?

For one, it is really satisfying. Life's about challenges and for me that's where the real buzz comes in, seeing my athletes take up a challenge by setting a goal and helping them progress and seeing them achieve there goals knowing I have helped them do that, that's why I love coaching

Four most significant cycling achievements?

10th - British Elite Road Race Championships, 3rd - Tour of Cameroun UCI 2.2 Stage 1, 1st - "Le George Pompidou" (E/Nat) single day event (France), Silver medallist Scottish Elite Road Race Championships (twice).

 

Best moment on bike?

I've had so many but I've narrowed it to two. One is the first time i rode the Tour of Britain back in 2004, because it was on home soil and I was racing with riders I had grown up watching on TV like Michele Bartoli. The second has to be as an amateur living in a small village called Durtol near Clermont Ferrand in France for 2 seasons which was an amazing experiance.
